Sri Lanka Muslim Council expresses concern over extremist monk's threats
The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) has expressed concern over the threatening remarks made by the General Secretary of the extremist Buddhist organization Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera during the convention of Buddhist monks held yesterday in Colombo.
The Vice President of the MCSL Hilmy Ahamed, in a letter to President Mahinda Rajapaksa has written that during the convention, the extremist monk had threatened to "take care of" the Muslim organization for urging the President not to grant visa to the controversial Myanmarian monk Ashin Wirathu, the leader of the dreaded 969 organization, to attend the BBS convention.
The MCSL Vice President in his letter to the President said they are raising concerns not simply as Muslims but as concerned citizens of the country, and urged the President to intervene against the intimidation and threats posed by BBS and other extremist organizations.
