The World’s tallest Maitreya Buddha statue is being built in Kushinagar
The World’s tallest statue and a brilliant religious masterpiece
dedicated to the Maitreya Buddha! For more than 12 years, the Maitreya
Project has worked with Uttar Pradesh State Government officials to
create the conditions for the building of the Maitreya Buddha statue.
Kushinagar is where Shakyamuni Buddha passed away and was cremated and
is one of the four most holy Buddhist pilgrimage sites. The land for
the Maitreya statue is adjacent to the Parinirvana Temple, marking where
Buddha passed into parinirvana, and the Rambhar Stupa, where the Buddha
was cremated. According to ancient texts, when Maitreya Buddha, who is
the future Buddha, appears on earth, it will be near Kushinagar.
The Maitreya Statue is a magnificent 500ft/152m bronze statue in the
form of Maitreya Buddha. The statue is being built to last at least
1,000 years, providing an enduring monument to the quality of
loving-kindness. The purpose is to bring as much benefit as possible,
for as long as possible – spiritually, in education and healthcare, and
economically, through the direct and indirect creation of employment
opportunities.
