The 27th General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists to be held in Baoji, Shaanxi
The 27th
General Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists, jointly held by the
Buddhist Association of China, Shaanxi Province, and the Organizing Committee
of Baoji City, is scheduled to be held in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, from
October 16 to 18 this year.
Buddhism in
Shaanxi dates back to ancient times and Shaanxi is one of the central regions
that have played a vital role in studying and promoting the spread of Buddhism
in China. Kumarajiva, Xuanzang, and many other Buddhist masters once translated
Buddhist scriptures and propagated the Buddhist teachings in Shaanxi, and their
influence spread to many other countries and regions in Asia. Baoji is home to
Famen Temple, the place to worship the preserved Sakyamuni Buddha relic.
Considering its significance in Chinese Buddhism, it is appropriate to choose
Baoji as the host for this year's event.
